Eating fish and chips the other day made me think… A car’s engine requires perfectly refined fuel. You can’t put diesel in a petrol engine. You can’t even put leaded petrol in an unleaded engine. And a bit of dirt or water down the tube causes the whole system to breakdown.
In the movie Back to the Future, cars of the future run on garbage. Put any old thing down the tube and it’s converted into useful energy. What a miraculous and brilliant invention!
Our body is such a machine. Of course there are limits. Persistent abuse over long periods will cause problems. Of course I promote Healthy Living! But we can put practically anything down the tube and our body will convert it into useful fuel. What have you swallowed today? No other engine would cope with that. The more I learn about science and nature, the more reasons I have to marvel and to be thankful, like the psalmist…
